Wood Furniture Maintenance and Precautions to Take

Solid wood, although durable and robust, is a living and organic material that requires special care and attention to preserve its natural beauty and longevity. Here are our recommendations for maintaining and protecting your furniture on a daily basis:

        What to do:

        • Clean the surface of the table with a damp cloth, well-wrung out. If needed, add a small drop of mild soap (such as gentle dish soap) diluted with a little water. Wipe away any excess water with a clean, dry cloth.
        • Quickly wipe up any spilled liquid to prevent the wood from absorbing it.
        • Add a tablecloth, placemats, or a table runner before placing functional or decorative objects on it.
        • Use a trivet before placing a hot dish on the table and a coaster before setting down a glass, whether it's cold or hot.
        • Place felt pads under heavy or decorative items to prevent scratches.
        • Protect the surface of the table with a waterproof layer before engaging in any activities that could stain or damage it (writing, painting, modeling clay, crafts, etc.).

        What not to do:

        • Never clean the surface of the furniture with abrasive or chemical cleaners.
        • Do not place a hot, oily, greasy, wet, or damp dish or container directly on the table's surface.
        • Do not place any object or substance directly on the furniture without using a tablecloth, placemat, or another protective layer.
        • Avoid leaving decorative objects in the same spot all the time, especially in the first months after delivery and if your furniture is exposed to direct sunlight.

        PRECAUTIONS

Being a natural and living material, wood continues to interact with its environment throughout its life, which is why there are a few specifics to be aware of to avoid unpleasant surprises such as cracks, scratches, marks, stains, or others. Here are some precautions to take in order to keep your wood furniture in good condition for as long as possible and avoid unwanted inconveniences:

        • Maintain an ambient humidity level between 45% and 60%, measured with a hygrometer. During the winter months or periods of intense cold, when our heating systems dry out the air, compensate with a humidifier to counteract the dryness caused by heating. Just like our skin can dry out and crack, wood reacts similarly under these conditions.
        • Avoid close heat sources (such as radiators, fireplaces, or stoves) near your solid wood furniture.
        • Do not place your furniture too close to a window exposed to sunlight to prevent UV rays from altering the natural color of the wood over time.

These tips will help preserve the appearance and quality of your solid wood furniture for years to come. Wood is a noble material that tells a story and evolves with its environment. By taking care of it, you contribute to its longevity.
